The primary objective is to urgently initiate a conservation intervention to rescue three isolated Hoolock Gibbon groups stranded in severely fragmented forest patches near Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary-specifically in fragmented forest patches adjoining Horu Pahar, Denlo, and Ita Pukhuri.
The Wildlife Trust of India urgently calls for support to rescue and translocate Hoolock Gibbons currently stranded in small, isolated forest fragments near Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary in Arunachal Pradesh. These are India's only gibbon species - highly endangered - and are living in severely degraded patches due to agricultural expansion around Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary-near Horu Pahar, Denlo, and Ita Pukhuri. The primary objective is to urgently translocate these individuals to a protected area.
Given the extreme isolation and ecological non-viability of these three gibbon groups, translocation to the nearest protected area is the only sustainable long-term solution to secure their future; we plan to shift them to the nearest protected area with intact canopy, where they can safely re-establish. The operation will be carried out in coordination with the Forest Department and local communities.
A continuous support will help us build a corpus to facilitate the emergency aid, relocation and conserve India's wildlife.
