Fundacion Dones de Misericordia would be able to continue providing a safe living environment for the 30 children and 45 elderly who call Casa and Hogar de los Dones, home. A place where they feel protected and cared for after being rescued from the streets and abandonment but most importantly continue making them feel safe and loved.
The Tropical Storm Iota has caused leaks and flooding that damaged the children and elderly homes. The leaks can continue to damage a hole in the roof of the kitchen as a result of the rain and in the long term may cause molding. The septic tanks have also been affected, they are important for the responsible treatment of domestic wastewater, fixing this would allow us to continue having a safe system that breaks down the waste for the water to percolate back into the earth.
This micro-project would allow us to repair the ceilings, walls, floors in one of the boys bedrooms, hallway, outdoor eating area, and kitchen, as well as the septic tanks damaged at the homes of our by the Tropical Storm Iota, that has affected seventy percent of Cartagena. Repairing the damages is of high priority during the pandemic to continue maintaining our children and elderly healthy who since March 2020 spend most of their time at the homes.
Fundacion Dones de Misericordia will not only be able to continue protecting our current children and elderly re-establishing their rights and possible reuniting our children with their families but will also be able to continue protecting other children and elderly that are being impacted by the economic hardships caused by the pandemic.
