This project aims to provide an integrative MHM awareness class to different schools of rural Nepal. We will provide schools with IEC Materials and encourage school administration to maintain Menstrual Friendly Toilet and Menstrual friendly environment where girls can experience the proper hygiene on their periods and can talk about menstruation without any hesitation and fear.
Menstruation is still taken as a big taboo in Nepal where to talk about periods is not socially accepted in such case to practice menstrual hygiene is a big NO thing for Nepalese girls and women. Women and girls are at continuous health risk as lack of excess to proper hygiene sanitation practice. In rural Nepal banishing the menstruating women and girls to cattle shed or a makeshift hut and considering them as the impure thing enhance the challenge.
The project will enhance knowledge on Menstruation (its cause and process) and importance of menstrual hygiene. The school will be provided with MHM kit containing soaps, towels and dustbin. And "Surakhsya" club of 5-7 school girls will be formed to look after the MHM facilities in school and conduct regular awareness programs.
Educating school girls on menstrual hygiene will help them to remain healthy, free from infections, more confident and positive. Also, the enhanced knowledge on menstruation will enlighten them against the malpractices during menstruation. In the long term, women and girls will be more aware about their reproductive health, enjoy their reproductive rights properly and rise from social domination.
