9 girls represent the thousands in rural India whose predetermined futures prevent their potential from turning into success. 3 girls will be trained to be coaches. 6 will be trained to be police officers. Jobs that are thought to be for men for girls that were thought to be destined for dependence: dropping out of school, getting married, accepting physical abuse. 9 girls will become the breadwinners for their families. Because those who are underestimated make for the best overcomers.
India's rural villages determine the life course of even the most determined girls. Girls that are smart, talented - altogether, unique and full of potential. Girls are vulnerable to dropping out of school, early marriage and pregnancy because their family members struggle to equate the value of education with its financial costs and pairing sacrifices. Consequently, girls fall into the patterns of dependence that precede them, leading to an increased susceptibility to abuse and powerlessness
We will empower 9 girls with access to police officer and coaching training by removing the financial barrier between them and the futures they deserve: ones that make their families proud, strength heightened and joy multiplied. These girls will then have the courage and confidence to lead successful lives, respected by their communities. With access to their own capital, these girls can take ownership over their own outcomes and pursue even greater opportunities.
Educated girls raise empowered girls. Women without education have a 30% higher preference rate for male children whereas women with tertiary or higher education have a 3% preference rate. In turn, educated girls raise their daughters to be bolder, multiplying growth. These 9 girls will continue to grow and become celebrated leaders: unafraid to challenge norms of prejudice and violence. They already have the merit to build up their communities - through this program, they will have the means.
