Nelson Mandela, Afrika Tikkun's Patron in Chief once said, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." This giving season, give the gift of education to the most disadvantaged youth in South Africa and help them break the cycle of poverty. This project will enable 300 kids, grades 1-12, access to quality resources and education through our Child and Youth Development Program.
Despite the multiple advancements introduced to the educational system in South Africa, low quality education within the historically disadvantaged schools remains prominent. Young people are struggling to complete their high school education and the number of unemployed people in South Africa has increased from 3.7 million in 1994 to 6.21 million in 2018. Streets in South Africa are unsafe for these dropouts, making them vulnerable to crime, drugs and prostitution.
Our Child and Youth Development Program facilitates the emotional, physical, intellectual and social development of our young people so they can become employable and end the cycle of poverty. The program implements innovative and engaging teaching techniques designed for each individual. The holistic services they receive enables them to improve their academic outcomes and empowers them to emerge as leaders and agents of positive change in their communities.
The project will enable us to offer age-appropriate activities to 300 young people that will ensure their holistic development. Through our program, young people will be able to make healthy life and career choices. With the help of our program, children from disadvantaged backgrounds will develop their confidence, self-esteem, social skills and improve their academic outcomes. This will eventually help them in their professional development and will enable them to become productive citizens.
