On this birthday of mine, help underprivileged children across India get a better education. In India today, while most children across income levels are enrolled in school, the quality of education is very poor. When you donate to this project, you help U&I reach these children with after-school education at Learning Centres across the country. U&I uses a unique model where volunteers commit to nine months of teaching and mentoring a child in order to help them thrive academically and socially.
While students across India, including those from disadvantaged communities, have access to education, the poor quality of education remains a pressing problem. Due to extremely large classroom sizes, sub-par teacher training, teacher absenteeism, and lack of classroom resources, the quality of education remains very poor and dropout rates are extremely high.
U&I provides individualized after-school tutoring in English, Math, and Science to over 2000 children across India at our Learning Centres across India. We do this by pairing our trained tutors with underprivileged students to help them in their academic and social development. With a 1:5 teacher-to-student ratio, each child receives personalized tutoring which allows them to clear doubts, ask questions, and excel in the classroom.
U&I gives the children the skills and motivation to continue their studies. Statistics show that with every grade the student passes, their chances for better employment increases substantially. Research also shows that being able to speak English well increases a student's future employability by 400%. This will help break the cycle of poverty and give the next generation an appreciation for the value of education.
