You have partially funded the transportation of 30 girls from rural areas of northern Afghanistan to our Teacher Training Center where, after completing a two-year-long program, they will receive teacher certification. Our efforts in this area are critical, as the Ministry of Education recently stated that all teachers in the national education system will be required to receive certification to continue teaching. You have ultimately helped us transport and qualify more female teachers in rural Afghanistan, a dire situation in a country where only 30% of the educational workforce is female. Training women to become educators is an important element of empowering females in Afghanistan and allowing them to particpate in building a better future for their country. It's also essential for giving more girls in rural areas acccess to quality education. Thousands of girls are denied the opportunity to learn becuase of this serious shortage of female teachers, often dropping out of primary school and marrying at early ages.
These 30 girls who have graduated from high school wake up early every morning, six days a week, and travel long distances by line car from their village regions to attend classes at the Teacher Training Center. They are fully committed to learning fundamental teaching principles and want to eventually return to their villages to work and educate other girls, effectively breaking the cycle of female illiteracy in their villages.
Your dollars have had an impressive impact on improving programs for female education in rural Afghanistan: approximately 78% of the school teachers working in the rural areas where we operate graduated from our teacher training program, demonstrating the direct impact our donors have on girls’ education in the region.
We believe that a girl’s dream shouldn’t be cut short simply because of a lack of female teachers. Because of your continued support, these 30 girls will graduate and go on to work in their own villages, showing their young female students that they are capable of achieving anything they set their minds to.
