I am Riya, Rescue Project director,
Greetings from Bihar
Thank you to all those who donated to this appeal, although we did not reach the target we used your donations most carefully in accordance with the nature of the appeal and for the purpose of helping our team in their existing work catching child traffickers.
Just recently a couple of Buddhist monks were caught with minor children at the station taking them to the Himalayas to work before being intercepted by our team. There was previously a huge problem with Tibetan refuges capturing local children, taking advantage of their poverty and transporting them hundreds of miles away for the purposes of work, our team has worked hard with the monasteries in Bodhgaya to try and prevent this from happening with a lot of success.
We work with the most disadvantaged local communities, sensitising and educating them about the rights of children to help them understand that children are meant to be at school and not work.
We form Children Groups through which we bring together vulnerable children in a community.
These children then collectively work our solutions to help themselves and each other and ensure child rights in their area are upheld.
We work very closely with these Children Groups and train them to identify and prevent cases of child marriage, child trafficking, child abuse and child labour.
We map out-of-school children, street children and those who are involved in child labour and facilitate their movement into schools by the means of enrolment drives.
Another major aspect of our work is to coordinate with the district and state level authorities to ensure right implementation of laws so that children in the area are kept safe.
Thank you for your support,
Riya
