Thai Mother Day Special Outreach

Hello everyone!

Greetings from Tamar Center. We would like to thank you all for helping us with the Tamar Mother’s Day outreach. With the money that we raised we were able to pack three hundred bags of Mother’s Day gifts and distributed them on Mother’s Day to the women in the bars.

First the women in the bars did not understand why our teams were out there and asking them if they had children, but once they realized that we just wanted to honor them and show them appreciation, their attitude changed completely. Our teams were invited into the bars, got drinks offered to them, phones came out and many of the mothers showed us pictures of their children and told us how much they missed them. It opened the way for many conversations and deeper talks.

The women also enjoyed the vouchers that we distributed together with the giftbags. The vouchers were for free hair treatment in the Tamar Hair Salon and in the weeks following the distribution, women from all over Pattaya made appointments and got their hair done. Some even started to join our free English classes and we consider this outreach a full success.

Interestingly the most impacted women for this outreach were the women that are already with us at Tamar, the once that worked in the bars before and are now with their children at Tamar. Many of them were very touched and happy to talk with other mothers about them leaving the bars and being together with their children again. Our women also asked us, if we could a similar outreach next year again – and we planning to do so.

Another outcome of this outreach is that we will include some children gifts into the Christmas Gift Bags that we plan to distribute this Christmas, so that the women have something that they can sent home to their children for the new year celebrations.
