Gearing up for the next 3 grids!

Friends and colleagues shrieked with joy watching Grid Ambassador Rosane and microgrid customer Medeline star in the Economist short film that EarthSpark was featured in late last year. We were even able to watch it on a laptop powered by the solar-powered grid in Les Anglais! If you didn't get to check it out, here is a link

In light of our commitment to build 80 microgrids in Haiti we are gearing up and preparing to build the next 3. The Les Anglais grid has been running since last April. While there have been some technical difficulties and short blackouts along the way, we currently have 448 households with 24/7 power with some of, if not the, best power quality in the country!

While we are still perfecting our technology and processes in Les Anglais, we strongly believe in 'de-risking by doing'. We know we still haven't learned everything we can about building scalable, replicable microgrids and that the best way to learn is by actually doing it. We believe that after the next 3 grids we will have gained the know-how and experience needed to build an investable plan for the next 40.

To jumpstart this, we recently brought on two new staff members who are right now learning the ropes of microgrid development in Les Anglais. Workforce development will be crucial as we grow. Once they are well acclimated we will push forward to prepare the next 3 towns slated for grid development. We have already secured a concession from the mayor of nearby Tiburon to build a microgrid there which will serve about 200 households. The next step in community engagement will be holding a series of community meetings to explain the model to the community, assess local needs and start signing up future customers!

We are also in the final stages of completing the nation-wide market feasibility study that will help determine the two grids after Tiburon. We'll keep you updated as we progress! Thank you as always for your support.
