"I was just so frustrated and full of misguided anger. I didn't know where to direct it to. Now people tell me I look very calm. It's surprising even to me." -Howard, formerly homeless man

Thank you for your support of the David Lynch Foundation’s high-risk unemployed youth outreach. Through your generous support, the David Lynch Foundation have taught 20 unemployed youth at the HOPE program in New York City Transcendental Mediation.

Of the current residents in New York City:

  • New York City's unemployment rate remains at approximately 7.8% (January 2014)
  • Men and women with histories of incarceration face unemployment up to 40%
  • Those without a diploma or high school equivalency face unemployment of 9.8% (January 2014)
  • Only 1 in 10 long-term unemployed successfully secure employment

The HOPE program helps New Yorkers transcend the root causes of poverty by preparing them to find, keep and grow careers. They blend vocational, educational and social services with a lifelong commitment to a person's success.

Research suggests that TM reduces depression and anxiety by 50%, insomnia by 42% and is 2x as effective at reducing substance abuse as other conventional approaches. With TM, these clients can find relief from the shadow of the terrible experiences they endured and regain control of their lives.

Together, the David Lynch Foundation and The HOPE Program provided youth facing significant employment barriers, such as criminal backgrounds, histories of substance abuse and lack of education, with instruction and support in the Transcendental Meditation (TM) technique - a highly effective tool for self-regulation and self-development. The impact achieved was greater focus, stronger motivation and hopefully, long-lasting career success.

 Again, THANK YOU.

This is all made possible because of the generosity of people like you.
