In 2018, Sahar's coding project will provide 20 Afghan girls with the opportunity to enhance become digitally literate. The program will equip them with marketable skills and will increase their future employment opportunities. The fundraising goal for this microproject will pay for the participation of one girl. By investing in this coding project, you are empowering Afghan girls to dream of a future where they can be financially independent.
Investments in education for Afghan girls are increasing their literacy, but they need more marketable skills. Without such skills, many must marry and start raising children at very young ages. One skill that is very marketable in Afghanistan, but not available in the secondary schools attended by most girls, is computer coding.
In 2018, Sahar's coding project will teach coding to 20 girls from Sahar-supported public secondary schools in Afghanistan. These girls have already received basic computer literacy training in Sahar-funded computer centers. Training them in coding is the next step. The funding goal for this microproject, $250, is enough to train one girl. A tiny amount when compare to the enormous difference it will make in her life.
Our long-term goal is to improve the quality of public education for Afghan girls. We want every girl attending the public schools we support to finish secondary school with marketable skills.
