Surviving Tough Times

Cooking for our kids
Cooking for our kids

In-spite of numerous crises faced by Sri Lankans in the recent past, life seems to be slowly returning to almost normal though for many the cost of living continues to be the biggest challenge. The economic catastrophe that hit the island nation affecting every citizen and in particular, vulnerable communities precipitated by the overnight switch to organic fertiliser, resulted in widespread crop failure and poor harvest. With home-grown nutritious foods like pulses, grains, and vegetables unavailable the impact on children has been devastating with more than half of Sri Lankan families forced to reduce the food set on the table.

In its small way, The Sunshine Charity has contributed to solving this problem for fifty vulnerable children whose parents live below the poverty line. Thanks to the donations and funding received locally and internationally, we have been able to sustain our meal programme providing one wholesome and nutritious meal and a glass of liquid milk for our children. The Sunshine Charity will make sure that at least for the fifty children we take care the meal programme is sustainable and will prevent a full-blown hunger crisis among our kids.
