Through this microproject, Yspaniola will purchase between 5-10 tablets for teaching purposes to improve our literacy programs in Batey Libertad. Through this project, we can ensure all 100 students in our Preschool and Learning Center, many of whom speak Spanish as their second language, can benefit from tablets for phonics and literacy learning.
For 15 years, Yspaniola has offered Spanish literacy classes to students ages 3 to 13. Our teaching staff has requested new iPads in order to use educational applications, specifically those that aid student pronunciation and phonic development. Each classroom has one small computer and a few tablets that no longer work or produce sound. This limits teachers capacity to incorporate individualized phonics instruction. Many students struggle with proper pronunciation and sounding out words.
Access to tablets will not only improve technological literacy, but directly support students' levels of Spanish language attainment. Our teaching staff will use tablets for classroom instruction primarily through educational applications like Kahoot, Write with Syllables, and ABC Magic. Tablets offer fun opportunities to improve phonics skills like hearing sounds and pronunciation, essential in helping children proceed to the next level of writing and reading.
This tablet project will provide technological access to approximately 100 current students in Batey Libertad and future students in the coming years. It will also directly benefit our students' reading skills, ensuring a successful academic future.
