General Information
Open Learning Exchange (OLE) is thrilled to continue our work with UNHCR and IRD on the Tiger girls program at Za’atari refugee camp in Jordan. The Tiger Girls and their coaches continue to meet on a daily basis in Za’atari camp to address academic challenges and to continue their work on different community service projects. Over the summer the Tiger program welcomed a number of new participants and coaches.
Program Update
As part of our end of school year review we heard from many participants who expressed a deep interest in having an opportunity to see life outside of the camp. Many of these girls have been in the camp for years. At the time this seemed like an achievable goal. From the outset we faced two significant obstacles: funding and logistics. Our funding estimate for an excursion to sites within a 2 hour drive of Za’atari for 150 participants was USD $5,000. Unfortunately we were only able to raise $445 of the total needed. Perhaps more importantly, we faced significant bureaucratic hurdles including exit permits needed for each participant and other stakeholder permissions. At this time we have decided to add the funds raised to the general fund for the Tiger Program. We are reviewing the possibility of a field trip with the Coaches and we will continue to work stakeholders to make put in place the various permissions needed to reconsider this trip in the coming months.
Thank you for your ongoing support of the Tiger Girls program.
