Come, Take a Tour of New Hope Centre

The Ark: Home to the Small Children
The Ark: Home to the Small Children

One of the advantages of contributing to a project like New Hope Centre is that it is small and personal. The kids are real and you can be certain that every penny you send is being used to take care of their needs: to house, clothe, educate, nurture and enrich them. This quarter they’d like take you on a tour of New Hope Centre and give you a sense of the environment in which they are being led into their destinies.  When you think of them, they want you to be able to picture them where they sleep, eat, learn and worship.

Be sure to look at the images provided of the structures as you are taken thru them one by one. The first building to be erected at New Hope Centre is now the home where the youngest children live. It is called The Ark. The little ones have areas that belong to them individually where they can put their clothes and personal items. They love bright colors and decorate their areas with picture and gifts from sponsors.  There are live-in caretakers who prepare their food, help them do their laundry, dress the ones who still need help and treat them as their own.

There are also two similar buildings, one for the teen-aged girls and another for the boys. The teens have all been trained to plan and cook their own meals, make grocery lists for the week, do their own laundry (both with machines and by hand so they will be prepared for their futures) and to clean. They take turns with the duties and have an adult who supervises that all goes well. In each setting the kids eat together in family-style meals.

There is a pre-school that is colorful and creative as well as a school for the older students. The campus is set on Bethany Mountain – and it is a mountain. It requires quite a climb to reach the Training Center at the top of the hill where there are special activities and training both for NHC students and for volunteers from around the world. Downhill from the Training Center is a large kitchen that can be used to cook for larger groups.

Further down is perhaps the most important building, the Tabernacle of Praise where all students and staff gather first thing in the morning to worship the One who has blessed and saved them all. This is also a gathering center for people from all over the nation of Swaziland. NCH frequently plays host to 500 children and adults from all corners of the nation where they are led, instructed and brought into the presence of God by the students you are helping to bring into adulthood and maturity.

Two of the uniquely African structures are the rondavels where guests are housed and the open-air thatched structures called lapas used for more informal gatherings. The buildings are rounded out with an administrative building at the base of the campus. No child’s life is truly complete without animals and New Hope is home to cows, bulls, dogs, cats and chickens that roam around freely and even attend meetings.

So this is home to these remarkably resilient children with whom you have joined your hearts and support. Your donations go to maintain this environment in which they are thriving and thanking God every day for your generosity.

They send you their blessings.
