This microproject aims to bring about transformative changes in Sri Lanka's poor urban community through sustained activities at the "Art of Living" youth center. By promoting positive youth development and reducing violence among adolescents and youth, create a safer, more supportive environment where young people can thrive, equipped with the skills and support they need to lead productive and fulfilling lives.
SM youth center addresses urban youth challenges like gender-based violence and social tensions, enhancing coping mechanisms and life skills. It promotes resilience through yoga, mindfulness, and meditation, reducing violence. Education on gender-based violence and extremism prevention improves safety. Collaborative efforts with parents, and caregivers bolster support networks, nurturing positive youth development. This project equips youth with vital skills for thriving despite challenges.
Shanthi Maargam is currently facing funding challenges that impact our ability to sustain community services in the short term. This microproject aims to alleviate these challenges through short-term fundraising to ensure ensuring continued support and service delivery to the community. Ultimately, the project empowers vulnerable youth with essential skills for healthy, productive lives amid adversity.
By healing the emotional traumas of vulnerable children and youth while using a youth development approach, we can help them find deeper levels of peace and resilience, and in the long-term learn to break the cycle of violence in their families and communities while and developing inter-faith harmony which our country so badly needs.
