Florence is a single mother from Tole who became blind a few years ago.She is trying to take care of her family selling dresses, but the environment is too harsh to provide for four children while facing her disability.Feeding is not appropriate and the school is letting them in for now but will ask for fees soon. This project provides long and short term solutions to improve the lives of Melanie(15), Visneida(9), Gabriel(7), Franklin(1) and Florence.
Franklin is still a small baby and does not require school fees, Visneida and Gabriel are being let in during only a period of grace and Melanie is in high school because her mother asked for a loan we are not sure how she's going to pay back. Reach Out has been helping Florence for a few years now but her situation is very hard to solve and we lost . Slowly she is adapting to her disability and earning an income, but she is far from self-sufficient.Meanwhile,4 kids have a right to be kids
With the money obtained we will pay the school fees of Gabriel and Visneida, provide some materials that are lacking for their education (mainly textbooks but also notepads, shoes and bags) we will repay the loan that she has contracted for Melanie's education and we will help make sure their feeding is adequately addressed throught the year. We will help Melanie and Florence start a small business with capital, trainings and consultancy as we have been doing with the Keep a Girl Alive program.
Melanie is an exception to our ongoing project, we are including her on not as a drop-out from school but precisely on the condition that she does not drop out,we will monitor her case carefully and we hope that together she and her mother can provide adequately for their family. But the potential long term impact of giving four children an education and making sure they are fed every day cannot be measured, specially in Tole, where girls are in high risk of sexual disease and early pregnancy
