For $250, you can support Angellah Kanyesigye's education! Angellah is 15 years old, and she lives with her aunt. Her favorite class is English, and she studies hard every day so that she can get promoted to the next class. $250 is enough to provide Angellah with a scholarship that covers ALL of her expenses.
Uganda has the highest number of HIV/AIDS orphans in the world, and the majority live in impoverished circumstances. Families usually send boys to school first, opting to keep girls at home to work and save money on school fees. Without an education, the girls will continue to be ensnared by the cycle of poverty. Although all of our students, including Angella, are orphans living in similar circumstances, they have been given the opportunity to receive free high-quality education.
When you support Angella, you are ensuring that she will have access to free high-quality education, as well as nutritious school meals and clean water. Many studies show a connection between HIV/AIDS prevention and education, so it is imperative that our students receive as much schooling as possible. Angella, like our other students, understands that education is the key to a better life for her, her family, and her community! She works hard every day in school to achieve her goals.
Having an education will allow our female students to break out of the cycle of poverty, and create opportunities for themselves. They will be less vulnerable to human trafficking, or getting lured into the city for low-wage jobs, because they have other options to pursue. They will be less susceptible to diseases, especially HIV/AIDS, and less prone to early pregnancy. Instead, they will have the chance to take advantage of the opportunity to graduate and attend university.
