Summary

Attacks killed at least 6,896 people in Benue and 2,630 in Plateau between May 2023 and May 2025. More than 615,000 people in Benue and 65,000 in Plateau were displaced as of July 2025, while attacks continued through July 2026. Many affected communities lack a crisis response centre, mobile healthcare, and timely relief. This project will establish a centre to coordinate medical care, disaster response, referrals, and emergency assistance.

Challenge

Recurring attacks in Benue and Plateau have killed thousands and displaced more than 680,000 people. Survivors in remote communities and displacement camps struggle to receive urgent medical care, medicines, food, shelter, protection, and reliable information. With no central crisis response centre serving both areas, relief is poorly coordinated, mobile health services are limited, referrals are delayed, and many injured remain untreated and sick people die by preventable deaths.

Solution

This project will set up a permanent crisis response centre serving Benue and Jos. The centre will coordinate mobile medical teams, emergency referrals, relief supplies, temporary shelter, food, and medicines for affected families. Trained staff and volunteers will receive distress reports, identify communities needing urgent help, maintain emergency supplies, and connect survivors with hospitals, protection services, government agencies, and humanitarian organisations.

Long-Term Impact

A permanent crisis response centre will reduce delays in reaching people injured or displaced during attacks and disasters. Faster medical care, referrals, and relief distribution can prevent avoidable deaths, illness, hunger, and homelessness. The centre will strengthen local emergency preparedness, train community responders, maintain relief supplies, and keep records of affected families. It will remain available for future emergencies across Benue and Jos.
