Sponsoring a student will change that students life forever. In Niger the average student only goes to school for 3 or 4 years, most never finishing primary school. With your support more students will be able to get the guidance and mentoring that will allow them to succeed. Every year that a student stays in school increases their earning and hiring potential.
This project will allow for more informed students to gain the potential of increasing the local economy and create community investment in education. These rural communities are mainly comprised of illiterate people only 15% can read and write. More students learning means more social change.
When students learn they often relay what they learn to their friends, family and neighbors. This brings increased awareness to the communities. Not only will education bring awareness, but it will so spread knowledge and new ideas. Problem solving and critical thinking are the byproduct of academia and students need those things in order to thrive.
Mentoring at-risk girls succeeding in school and raises the value of education community wide. Girls that stay in school delay marriage, have fewer children and develop more durable livelihoods. Communities with mentoring programs increase in attendance, and mentored girls are now graduating middle school, the first to do so. Mentors engage in income generating activities like herding, investing a portion into the program, and form savings & loan groups - increasing their economic security.
