This project will provide solar-powered radios to students in Sierra Leone. With these radios, they will be able to listen to and participate in the radio learning program implemented by the Ministry of Education. The broadcasts will help them improve their English and further their education, while at home. This additional learning opportunity will help them progress educationally and strengthen their English foundation - a key element and medium for learning other subjects.
In Sierra Leone, there is an on-going need to improve the quality of written and spoken English. The government is providing supplementary learning through radio broadcasts. Unfortunately, hundreds of families do not own a radio or are not able to afford the on-going cost of batteries. Because the kids do not have access to radios they are missing out on learning opportunities.
This project will solve the lack of access to radios by making available solar-powered radios to kids. With these radios, the kids will be able to tune in and listen to the English broadcasts. Listening to the broadcasts will help strengthen their English foundation and love for learning.
A stronger foundation in English is a valuable learning ability that will enable their progress academically and professionally - serving them for many years. English proficiency will help them achieve their future dreams
