Stitch Hope: Empower War-Torn Women in Congo

Summary

In war-ravaged North Kivu, Congo, displaced women survivors return to destroyed homes, barren fields, and shattered livelihoods. Without income, many face prostitution or starvation. Your donation provides sewing machines and training, empowering 150 women to rebuild their lives through sustainable tailoring businesses. Each $50 gift funds a machine, restoring dignity, feeding families, and reviving communities. Together, we stitch hope back into Congo

Challenge

Decades of conflict and disasters like the Nyiragongo eruption have left Congolese women destitute. Forced to flee, they return to ruins-no homes, no crops, no schools. With no income, mothers resort to begging or exploitation, while children suffer malnutrition. In Goma's overcrowded camps, despair spreads. Without tools to rebuild, these women remain trapped in cycles of poverty and trauma.

Solution

We equip women with sewing machines and vocational training, transforming them into self-reliant tailors. Each machine ($50) becomes a lifeline: women earn income, feed their children, and regain independence. Training includes business skills, ensuring long-term success. By reviving Congo's social fabric, one stitch at a time, we combat poverty and gender inequality

Long-Term Impact

This project will help widowed women break free from poverty by acquiring sustainable skills. Over time, trained women will mentor others, creating a ripple effect of empowerment in their communities. Educated and employed mothers raise educated children, leading to stronger families and resilient communities across Bukavu.
