Shirley has overcome her beginnings in difficult home circumstances with her many brothers. She now can see beyond her poverty and aspire to become educated. Shirley was eager to join our dental hygienist training program to help herself and others and she has reached the final stage of training. Now she wants to do a special project in the community helping children. She has worked with SDF (a fluoride coating for decay prevention) in a tropical village. She helps at Heroes del Boqueron.
Shirley Gives Dental Care to Heroes del Bosqueron school for special needs children. Shirley's special friend there is Wilson who was burned over 80% of his body, including so severely that he lost his arms. There are 160 children who have many different special needs. Of course, they lack financial resources to go to a dentist, so Shirley helps by demonstrating good brushing technique. Then these children receive full dental coverage from the Smiles Forever clinic.
Shirley's Dream Close to Fulfillment--she and so many others benefit from your kind donations. Shirley is even working on a special x-ray study which represents a great investment of time and economic resources. The goal is important information will be submitted to the IFDH. Shirley wishes to thank you because her dream is being realized. Shirley asked, "Guide me to change my life, so I can have a profession and help my brothers and help many needy children to get dental care."
Shirley's schooling will help to not only give her a secure footing for her and her family's future, but also she will complete her training and actually personally help hundreds of children. Then she will go on to bring much-needed dental care to the wider indigenous community, and help break the circle of poverty by having a marketable skill. Dental care is so lax in Bolivia that many of the cases seen are truly health emergencies, and much suffering can be averted
