The Spoken Word Café was partially funded. Instead of launching a full program, plans are being made to provide a café at a culminating event. The event will pull together all of components of the STEM Academy while also engaging teen members interested in culinary arts. Teens will be paired with mentoring culinary instructors for training sessions prior to the event. Teens on the café project team will be given a budget and will source, prepare and serve menu items during the event.
Event participants will serve as customers for the café project team to test their menu items and their newly
developed culinary and hospitality skills.
A collaboration with a local community college culinary arts program will provide culinary arts mentors for Club teens
on the café project team.
