Raising A Reader will be selecting recipients for the Special Needs book sets to Kindergarten children in NY, MD, and NJ. By introducing Special Needs concepts into the classroom at this early stage, we can begin to create a more tolerant and inclusive world.
With the funds raised, a Special Needs book set will be sent to Kindergarten classrooms in NY, MD, and NJ serving 75 children each. 225 children will be reached overall during the first rotation cycle.
The selected books include Autism, hearing loss, being wheelchair bound, and more. Each book contains a bookplate to support families – parents, caregivers, siblings, and extended family on how to share these concepts with their children.
As the book sets are implemented, we will be able to share the impact on the direct families that will be served by the special needs books in the home.
Raising A Reader has helped more than 1.5 million families develop, practice, and maintain the habit of sharing books. Thank you for all that you do to support child literacy through Raising A Reader!
You truly are changing the lives of children and families in need.
Yours in book sharing,
The Raising A Reader Team
