In India, there are around 10-15 million physically challenged youths at the bottom of the pyramid. With limited opportunities to earn an income and frequently discriminated against by society, the large majority have no choice but to submit to a life of poverty, dependency and social exclusion. Shuruat Mobility provides the means for these youths to become successful mobile street vendors in their local communities, profoundly changing both their lives and society's attitudes towards them.
Most physically challenged youths across India - victims of polio, amputations or injuries - face the challenges of unemployment and physical isolation. These challenges result from a lack of access to mobility aids, vocational training, micro-credit and employment opportunities. Shuruat Mobility's innovative and scalable solution provides these youths with the tools to become "businesspeople-on-wheels", and integrate physically, socially and economically with society.
To tackle these challenges, we have developed innovative hand-propelled tricycles specially designed to enable physically challenged users to sell a range of products on these tricycles. Along with the production and supply of these tricycles, we will be providing end-users with comprehensive business training and micro-credit support - to deliver a holistic solution to the challenges above. At our initial projects in rural Gujarat we will be supporting 30-50 physically challenged youths.
Our projects impact beneficiaries as well as the wider community in which they live. This impact is both social and economic. Our social impact covers multiple dimensions which include providing a means of mobility and social inclusion as well as building self-confidence. Economic impact is created through the increased income generated by beneficiaries, which will allow them to lift themselves and their families out of poverty.
