Jiban is thirteen and he's a survivor of two Nepal earthquakes. Jiban lives with his family in Tukucha area 4 of Kavre district. Their home was destroyed in the first earthquake and his family, and other families like his, urgently need shelter to protect them from the monsoon rains. These families are working hard to create their own shelter but they need your help so that they can finish the job and stay dry and healthy.
Nepal has been devastated by two earthquakes in less than three weeks. Survivors have lost loved ones and 540,000 homes were destroyed or damaged in the first earthquake. Even where houses survived many people were already afraid to return home, and this was made worse by the second earthquake, which caused further damage and fear. Many people are still sleeping outside and urgently need a safe roof over their heads.
Your donations will be used to provide Shelter Repair Kits to families like Jiban's. These kits will include materials such as roofing sheets and fixings. Many families are already constructing frames for new shelters using bamboo, which is locally prevalent and easily sourced. Our kits will support these survivor's own hard work by providing them with the missing materials they need to put a roof over their own heads. This project will provide kits to 5 families like Jiban's.
By working with local partners and communities during the early relief phase we'll be able to identify and understand longer-term needs. This will also build important relationships of trust that will be vital to providing effective services. We'll also empower and mobilise survivors to help themselves. With survivors actively participating our work will build their confidence and ability to take charge of their own recovery. This will make them more resilient in the long-term.
