Share hope this Christmas with e-cards from Cusco

At the end of last year in the rural Andes, our microproject, Share the Hope of Christmas with E-cards from Cusco, helped transform what is often a difficult season into a moment of joy, dignity, and connection for over 100 children supported by Picaflor House and the Mobile Library. In communities such as Oropesa, Quillahuata, and Kallarayan, where families face economic hardship, food insecurity, and limited access to educational resources, this initiative ensured that children could experience the warmth and celebration that every childhood deserves.

Thanks to the funds raised, we organized meaningful end-of-year celebrations rooted in local traditions. Children participated in the beloved Peruvian Chocolatada, sharing hot chocolate and panettone in a spirit of community and belonging. In Quillahuata and Kallarayan, these celebrations were combined with mobile library sessions, where children received gifts, enjoyed games, and strengthened their connection to learning. A special cultural visit to the Inkiltambo archaeological site further enriched the experience, allowing children to connect with their heritage while learning about Andean traditions and the significance of the Apus (sacred mountains).

At our center in Oropesa, nearly 60 children took part in a memorable Christmas celebration that also marked the end of the academic year. A highlight of the day was the visit of Santa Claus (Papa Noel), who brought excitement, imagination, and joy to the children as he listened to their wishes and distributed gifts. The celebration also included student performances, crafts, and moments of recognition—especially for older students, whose perseverance and growth were acknowledged as they continue their journey as role models within their communities.

Beyond the celebrations, this period also represented a critical academic milestone. As the school year ended, many children relied on Picaflor House for additional academic support. Through tutoring and a focused learning environment, students were able to prepare for their final exams and successfully complete their school year with increased confidence. This combination of academic reinforcement and emotional support ensured that children not only celebrated the holidays but also closed the year with a sense of achievement and motivation.
