Earlier this month we were able to get Amber, her daughter Serafina and their beloved dog Mochi home to the USA from Portugal. Amber's husband became so abusive he kicked Mochi in the stomach and threw Amber into a wall. Serafina was in school at the time. When her husband stormed out of the house, Amber called us. Within one week we flew them to the USA, got them into shelter and Mochi into a foster home. We need secure an apartment and some basic necessities for them by early January
We were able to get Amber, Serafina and Mochi back home to the USA safely. The abuse got so bad Amber was terrified her husband was going to kill Mochi to punish her. They are living in shelter now and Mochi is safe in a foster home. Their time at the shelter will be up in early January. Amber found a small two bedroom apartment that will accept Mochi. She needs first month's rent of $800, the first installment of an $800 deposit of $200, and $400 for food and other basic necessities
By securing an apartment for Amber, Serafina and Mochi, they can live their lives safely and in peace in the USA. Amber's husband is not Serafina's father so Amber does not have to fight for custody. She can file for divorce and begin her life over. Amber is a smart, motivated woman who is already looking for a job. We are confident that once they are in their own apartment, Amber will be able to become self-sufficient quickly.
The project serves 500 women per year empowering them to find alternatives to a life of violence so their children grow up in violence free homes with their self-esteem in tact with the hope of stopping the cycle of violence in future generations.
