$350 to send Bertrand to School for a Year

A microproject by International Disaster Volunteers (IDV)

Summary

Restarting school is one of the first good things to happen to 14 year old Bertrand in a while. The earthquake destroyed his home and he spent most of 2010 living in a tent camp. He's now been able to move into his aunt's house. Even before the earthquake, Bertrand was only able to attend a few short months of school because his family couldn't afford the fees. Your donation will give Bertrand the education he needs to break the cycle of poverty and build a bright future.

Challenge

School in Haiti is not free, and if a family cannot pay, their children simply do not attend. Lack of education locks these children in a cycle of poverty. Ensuring access to school not only improves children's lives, but strengthens Haitian communities in the long-term.

Solution

Bertrand has lived his whole life in poverty. Your donation will give him the education he needs to ensure he does not follow in his family's footsteps. We'll use your donation to pay Bertrand's school fees, provide books, school supplies, and extra support if he needs it. The education he'll receive will be life changing.

Long-Term Impact

Access to education for children from families who do not have the means to send their children to school means that those children will have the skills they need to find stable jobs and escape the poverty of their families.
