Children Will Eat Healthfully Thanks to Seeds

Alinaitwe lives in Uganda with his wife and four children.  When he heard that two children had been orphaned in a village near by, he and his wife decided to adopt the children and give them a home alongside their own kids.  Ana (6 years old now) and Pouline (2.5 years old now) joined their household over a year ago and are being raised as part of a large household.

Due to their decision to help children affected by AIDS and their low socio-economic status, this family was given training in gardening and non genetically-modified seeds: cabbage, tomatoes, spinach, and watermelow. Alinaitwe started their garden by building small nurseries for the seeds/seedlings and then transplanted them to a larger plot of land he is renting.  With much care and with the help of the family, watermelons, spinach, tomatoes and cabbage have been harvested.  They eat a portion of the veggies and some gets sold at the market, helping pay for school fees.

Alinaitwe is so grateful for the gift of seeds!  He knows that the kids will be healthier because of eating good food and he is thrilled to have a little extra income so they can stay in school.  He does say it is very expensive to purchase fertilizers and pesticides, so this is something we need to look at - how to best help families like Alinaitwe's.  

Thank you so much, so much, for allowing Alinaitwe and his wife to look after their family by providing them with healthy food.  They are so happy and plan to expand their garden even further.  They are on a waiting list to receive livestock, as well, giving them the extra push they need to get out of the cycle of extreme poverty.  Thank you for being part of this!
