Scholarship to Help Dorcas' Dream Come True

A microproject by Develop Africa, Inc.

Summary

UNESCO in a report titled "Education for All" identifies Sub-Saharan Africa as one of the regions that have the widest gender disparity in terms of education. In African schools boys woefully outnumber girls in attendance. Two out of three of the 110 million children who do not attend school are girls, and girls grow up to make two thirds of the world's 875 million illiterate adults. This project will help ensure that Dorcas continues her schooling by providing her with a full scholarship.

Challenge

Families with limited funds to educate their children focus on sending their boys to school, and many girls who start school drop out because their parents cannot afford to continue to pay for their education. Dorcas' education no longer has the support of her parents who died due to the Ebola epidemic. This project will provide a full scholarship for Dorcas covering her tuition, books, school supplies and related school expenses.

Solution

Funds from this project will help Dorcas continue her education and eventually become a medical practitioner - her desired future profession. Your support will help provide all she needs to be successful in school and ensure that she completes her education.

Long-Term Impact

Your support will help Dorcas to finish school, become independent and self-sufficient. In her chosen future career as a medical practitioner, she will also be contributing to national development. Healthy, well-educated and emancipated women are an excellent foundation for a new and free society.
