This microproject will support Victory and other children under 5 years in Anambra State, to avert death caused by pneumonia. Victory, a 4-year-old boy from a poor family in Nnewi, is down with pneumonia and requires urgent medical attention, as pneumonia is the leading cause of death among children under 5, killing approximately 800,000 children globally a year. Pneumonia killed 740,180 children under the age of 5 in 2019, accounting for 14% of all deaths of children under five years.
It is estimated that about 1.4 million children under the age of 5 could die from pneumonia over the next decade in Nigeria, as the country accounts for more than 20% of childhood deaths from pneumonia. More than 40% of one-year-olds in Nigeria are unvaccinated, and three in four children suffering from pneumonia, do not get access to medical treatment.
We will use the funds raised from this microproject to make sure that Victory receives the necessary treatment that he needs in order to stay healthy, while also working with some of the hospitals in Anambra State, to make sure that other children under 5 years of age, receive pneumonia immunization.
Victory will be healthy and join his peers in going to school again and this microproject will also help in reducing the number of global deaths resulting from pneumonia.
