The project will help kids with cancer to survive Covid-19 pandemic times proving them with essential medication that is not available in the hospitals from the state procurement as a result of coronavirus crisis as well as with necessary protection such as masks, disinfection, safe transportation.
In March 2021, there is a rapid increase of Covid-19 cases in Ukraine, caused by new virus strains. In response to the crisis, the government has introduced stricter quarantine measures in most regions of the country including Kyiv where the most complicated cancer diagnoses are treated. However, kids with cancer have to come to Kyiv because their aggressive disease can kill them faster than Covid-19. They need medication to continue treatment and protection to be safe from coronavirus.
Having emergency Covid-19 funds will make it possible for us to act fast and to provide kids affected by cancer with everything they need to survive Covid-19 pandemic times. We will be able to buy necessary drugs and medical supplies immediately in case of gaps in the state procurement caused by the coronavirus crisis. Protection also remains essential for kids including masks, coats, disinfectants for individual use and for surfaces, safe transportation to and from the hospital, etc.
The ultimate goal of Zaporuka is to contribute to the approximation of the general level of medical assistance for children in Ukraine to the best world standards and thus to increase of their long-term survival and their quality of life during and after the disease.
