Childhood cancer is curable. Recovery, however, depends not only on the skill of doctors or the availability of drugs. Equipment that provides timely diagnosis and continuous monitoring is crucial too. The hospital in Lviv (Ukraine) where 200 children are treated every year requires a modern centrifuge that will help to make more accurate diagnoses and to better control treatment progress which is essential in such complicated diseases as blood cancer or blood clotting disorders.
Ukrainian doctors are good at doing their job, but their qualification is not enough when there is no necessary hospital equipment. The hospital uses a cytocentrifuge to prepare at least 400 samples per year. There is no similar equipment in any other hospital in Lviv, and it is impossible to transfer biological fluids to another city because the cells are destroyed quickly. Lack of necessary equipment means stopping children's treatment.
