Hello Everyone
Whilst the winter warmth appeal did not have the success of recent years I want you to know that every single cent we received went directly and immediately to buy warm clothing and blankets for children in need.
We did have some supply from previous years appeals so we were able to distribute as many items as possible.
Bihar does get the worst of extreme weather, unbearably hot in the summer months of April May and early June, floods particularly in the north with the run off from the Himalayan mountains in the monsoon and bitterly cold winter months.
Especially January.
Whilst it never snows it can get down to just 2C during the night. It doesn’t take much imagination to understand how these kinds of temperatures can affect those with no warm clothing or shoes, or even a blanket. We started this appeal because a long time ago a girl had died, she was only ten years old, because of the severe overnight cold who attended one of our village schools. I am happy to report since we started the appeal this has never been repeated in the areas where we work.
Thank you all and here is a comment from a grateful mother,
“We are very poor and food is sometimes hard to provide in our family. We had some torn very thin shawls but nothing more and my children would shiver from the cold.
We could never afford such thick warm blankets, made of wool and so lovely and warm, thank you so much for thinking of us”..
