JUCONI aims to eradicate family violence and help those who have suffered it, to cope and achieve healthy, empowered, and dignified lives.
In our JUCONI Center (the Foundation’s Day Center) we work with mothers, fathers, and / or primary caregivers of infants under 5 to develop strengths and make them aware of their importance as guides of their children that require physical, economic, and emotional care. We strengthen skills so the bonds with their children are built on harmonious, healthy, and respectful bases to free them from the cycles of violence that, in language, behaviors and attachments are reproduced intergenerationally. Through play therapy, special time and therapeutic sessions that use the VIG (Video Interaction Guidance) as a tool, beneficiaries recognize their strengths in interacting with their children and, together with our educators and therapists, potentiate them to generate an adequate social and emotional development.
In this area of our organization, known as ADESPI (Environments for the Emotional and Social Development of Early Childhood for its acronym in Spanish) 14 JUCONI staff members participate, who oversee directing, coordinating, and executing the activities with the families. We have health, administrative, therapeutic, sports and cook staff. In addition, we have an Evaluation and Monitoring program that registers ADESPI activities to assess progress based on indicators. ADESPI has managed to generate significantly positive changes in more than 50 families and 115 children. We want to extend its benefits to more people and therefore, since 2016, we apply the basic principles of ADESPI directly in the homes of the most marginalized families, in extraordinary situations that prevent them to attend the JUCONI Center, in order that care is not interrupted. Currently, we also want ADESPI to reach the rest of the families that are part of JUCONI in other subprograms: child street worker, child market worker and child living on the street. Thanks to your donation, we can keep working to build violence free spaces. Mothers, like Luz, have manage to deal with the violence consequences and work with their own strengths to become a great mother and provide their children a space where intergenerational violence cycles can be broken.
