Ruby and her husband retired to Portugal last year. She was hesitant to move away from her children and grand children, but her husband convinced her to go. He told her she could come back anytime. She asked him if she could come home for Christmas and he said no and hid her American passport. He calls her names and is withholding her medication as a "punishment." Ruby has been praying for a miracle. With this project we will get Ruby home safely.
Ruby loves Portugal but can't take her husband's verbal abuse anymore. He calls her names and tells her how stupid she is. When she wanted to come home to see her children and grand children, he took her American passport. With this project we will be able to get Ruby a new American passport and a ticket back home.
Ruby will come home and live between here daughter's home and her son's home. Ruby has her social security so she feels she won't be a financial burden on her children. Ruby will be able to live happily, without abuse, around her children and grand children.
The project serves 500 women per year empowering them to find alternatives to a life of violence so their children grow up in violence free homes with their self-esteem in tact with the hope of stopping the cycle of violence in future generations.
