This project will identify children in some of the most vulnerable communities of Africa in need of eye care and to promote the importance of eye health and protection.
The most common global eye problem is uncorrected vision. This presents a major opportunity for change, as 80% of all causes of visual impairment is preventable or curable by identifying and correcting with something as simple as a pair of glasses. Poor vision is a clear barrier to education and employment, and most children and their families in underprivileged areas are often unaware of their difficulties.
After an initial Sight Screening is done at school, the results will allow us to identify a child's individual need and any after care such as an Optometrist or a specialist (Ophthalmologist) will be seen too. Once the impairment is diagnosed, we will provide such care, such as Glasses. Training will also be provided to the child and their family to ensure correct use of the method of care.
By tackling vision impairment and the root cause of their learning difficulties, this will provide children with the ability to live life to the fullest, reduce inequalities they face on a daily basis and assist the child to become productive independent members of their communities and society at large.
