Repair the water well that supports 500 Families

A microproject by MASHA (Kids 4 Afghan Kids)
Repair the water well that supports 500 Families

Summary

Unfortunately, the deep water well that has served our community for nearly 20 years is in need of repair. The well provides water for the schools and our clinic. It also will provide clean water for the hospital now under construction. The well is the only source of potable water for many miles. Many of our school children walk several hours to school each day, and after school, they carry water home to their families. The water supports more than 500 families.

Challenge

500 families need clean, drinkable water to survive.

Solution

This project will repair our deep water well so it can continue to provide fresh water.

Long-Term Impact

The repair of our well will allow us to continue working toward our goals of educating children, building support for girls' education (a subject still controversial in much of Afghanistan) and empowering girls to vote and participate in the political process. We want to continue helping the village teach the children to re-build a stable, democratic society and continue to reject involvement in the Taliban or other violent organizations.
