As you know, Libros works with children in rural communities with the aim of instilling in them a lifelong love of reading. Unfortunately, due to the viral pandemic we have had to postpone our programming as we deal with the very serious issue of food security. The families of the book club of Trancas (located outside of Dolores Hidalgo) are facing serious economic trouble and don't have support from SMA drives. We are organizing a food drive to feed 38 families during these times.
Food security is a serious threat that must be dealt with immediately before anything else. Many of the heads of the families are not working due to the closing down of many industries in the face of the coronavirus and have therefore lost their source of income.
With this little fund drive, we will be able to purchase basic food items and deliver them directly to the families in need. Beginning on April 27 (Monday) and continuing for 3 following Mondays, we will distribute a basket of food (rice, beans, milk, veggies, cereal, oatmeal, oil, condiments) to 38 families to help them get through the week. Each basket costs $10.60 (USD) per week. $14.40 per week in transportation costs. For 38 families for 4 weeks, the total is $1,665 dollars.
By supporting the most vulnerable families in our community, we will be strengthening our society and overcoming this major crisis with greater ease.
