Grace is a mother of seven children, she lives in Kibera slum. Three out of the seven are living with various forms of disability. In Kibera slum, most people depend on domestic and casual work to earn a living. Grace has been a casual worker and a fruit vendor for a long time. In March 2020, Grace lost her job. With three Children who constantly need medical attention, she continued vending fruits. However, the business has not been doing well because of low customers.
In Kibera slum, over 300 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed. This makes Kibera the most affected informal settlement in Kenya. Kibera has a population of over 200, 000 people. Thank you for helping us reduce the potential spread of COVID-19 by donating towards our COVID-19 fund. This is the impact your support has made since March 2020.
200 have received continued supply of food and face mask since March
7,000 are able to access clean water and soap to wash their hands per day since March
20 people living with disability have been supported with monthly rent since March.
3 community cleanup have been conducted and continuous sensitization of the community on COVID-19 safety measures.
500 women and girls have received supply of menstrual products during lock down.
We would love to shift our focus to post COVID-19 recovery. This iniatiative will ensure we support 500 people cope with the impact of COVID-19. The support will provide finances to sustain businesses and offer much needed mental health support.
