Thank you so very much for your help in rebuilding Grandma Vera's hut. Your donations helped buy materials necessary, namely framing and roof materials. The new home has 3 rooms. One for Vera, another for the 6 girls (they now sleep on two mattresses in one room) and a third room for the boys (3 boys share a mattress in this room. One of the boys still "wets the bed" and so Vera insists he sleep on a blanket on the floor since a blanket is easier to launder.)The community banded together and provided mud bricks and manual labor. Through this community effort, not only were we able to help Vera, we were able to replace a second demolished hut and help repair 5 other damaged huts as well.
Community Collaboration, locally and globally!
One of the granddaughters reports, "I am proud to sleep in this house. I feel safe now"
Here is a picture of Vera's new house before the roof was put on.
