Earthquake Repair Update
Your donations helped considerably in order for us to repair schools in Afghanistan that were effected by last year's earthquake. We could not have done this without your generous contributions.
Since the last major earthquake there has been at least one additional earth quake of smaller scale. While earthquakes in this area are not rare, with each passing quake cracks in existing structures continue to expand. Currently we have one school in Northern Afghanistan that is still awaiting repairs on the cracks that have developed throughout the classroom walls. To add to the problem of earthquake damage, this particular school is located in an area known to have more termite issues. These termites, coupled with the earthquake, has caused damage to the main entry and exit doors in addition to the walls. The doors will need to be replaced with steel framed doors, to prevent future termite related damage and increase safety from future earthquakes. In the pictures you can see the doors are in terrible shape on the oldest school building. Broken glass has been removed and doors reinforced with scrap wood to allow opening and closing. You can see cracking and broken brick around the top left hand side of the door. Your financial contributions will go towards repairing all of these issues and ultimately providing safe schools for our girls in Afghanistan.
