  • Funds raised: $6 of $10,000 (0.06%)
  • Remaining: $9,994

  • Campaign status: Closed (microproject completed; Ramadan has ended)

Current Situation

Sudanese refugee families in Kiryandongo Camp faced severe Ramadan hunger alongside unsafe and limited drinking water. Many households did not have enough staples for iftar and suhoor, forcing parents—especially mothers—to skip meals and leaving children and the elderly at heightened risk of malnutrition. At the same time, scarce or contaminated water increased dehydration and waterborne illness risk, making fasting and daily life more dangerous.

Key Challenges

  • Time-bound emergency: Ramadan is limited in time; delays reduce the ability to deliver support when it is most needed.
  • Funding did not materialize at scale: This microproject did not receive the level of support required to implement the planned distribution.
  • High vulnerability: Children, elderly family members, and mothers were most affected by daily hunger and dehydration.
  • Water safety constraints: When safe water access is limited, even small disruptions can increase illness risk quickly.

Activities & Readiness (What This Microproject Was Designed to Deliver)

This microproject was designed to deliver two immediate, life-saving supports during Ramadan:

  • Food staples for iftar and suhoor

o   Planned items: rice, flour, beans, cooking oil, salt

o   Purpose: reduce daily hunger, help families cook consistent meals, and prevent mothers and children from going without food

  • Safe water support

o   Purpose: improve access to safer drinking water, reduce dehydration, and lower waterborne illness risk—especially for children

Closing Note & Donor Direction

Because Ramadan has ended and this was a time-sensitive microproject, we are closing this campaign.

To ensure your generosity still reaches Sudanese refugee families in urgent need, we are directing supporters to our main GlobalGiving project:

  • Emergency Aid for Sudanese Refugees (Project #74006)

Use of Funds Raised

Although this microproject did not reach its funding goal, the $6 raised will be applied to our main project, Emergency Aid for Sudanese Refugees (Project #74006), where it can contribute to ongoing, higher-impact relief activities.

Long-Term Impact (Why This Still Matters)

Even beyond Ramadan, the needs remain urgent. Reliable food support helps protect children and the elderly from malnutrition and reduces the burden on mothers who often sacrifice their own health. Safer water access reduces waterborne illnesses, medical costs, and missed school or work opportunities. These basics help refugee households stabilize and preserve dignity while they rebuild their lives.

Looking Forward

We remain committed to delivering practical, dignified support that protects health and reduces suffering. We will continue strengthening our outreach and funding approach so future time-sensitive microprojects can reach full scale and serve more families when emergencies arise.
