Hundreds of children come to school in Nkolfoulou on an empty stomach. This makes it hard for them to focus on their lessons. A daily school meal can mean not only better nutrition and health but also increased access to and achievement in education. Additionally, it's a strong incentive for kids to consistently attend school. This project will provide a nutritious lunch for children attending the Bitame Lucia School.
Most of the students at this school in rural Cameroon come from very poor families who are unable to provide consistent meals, much less nutritional meals, to their children. These malnourished, hungry children have a very difficult time concentrating on school. They are often unable to attend school because they have to help their family make enough money to eat daily.
Funds from this project will provide a daily meal for 500 school children. In-school nutrition can enable children from food-insecure homes to attend school with a healthy lunch every day. This will improve the students' nutritional status, and, consequently, improve their overall health and cognitive development. This will further boost their academic performance and reduce dropout rates, while also providing relief to their caregivers.
The project will improve the learning of 500 underprivileged children. This will help transforming their lives and providing opportunities for growth, and contribution to national development. This ties in with and supports the overall goal of the school to provide a quality education to the children of the rural area of Nkolfoulou.
