This project will change the lives of poor, rural communities near Rurrenabaque, Bolivia. With the addition of medical equipment, men, women and children who do not have access to health care will be given quality health care at an affordable price. This medical care will improve quality of life, increase well being and decrease infant mortality.
Currently, people in the area have to travel to Trinidad (capital of the department), 8 hours from Rurrenabaque by road, to be treated in a clinic or hospital. Many times they do not have enough money to travel because this involves tickets, food and lodging, in addition to the payment for the requested service.
Rurrenabaque is in a strategic location since it is at a reasonable distance and with access to 7 small cities that do not have good hospitals or complete health services. When buying the requested equipment, an ultrasound equipment and a Stat Fax for ELISA, the people would be taken care of in a place that is close to their home and accessible financially.
As time goes by our services will be announced and many of the people who travel to other places to have an ultrasound or ELISA analysis will prefer to arrive to Rurrenabaque to be assisted. This will make Rurrenabaque a hub of quality health care.
