MADRE along with our Iraqi sister organization OWFI operates a network of shelters in Iraq, providing secure transportation, refuge, food and clothing for women and children threatened with violence who are fleeing their homes. This past winter, Iraq experienced one of the coldest winters in recent history. As temperatures continued to plunge, OWFI reached out to us with an urgent request for blankets and heaters for the shelters. More often than not, women and children arrive at the shelters with no more than the clothes on their backs. They needed our help to stay warm. MADRE and OWFI were able provide heaters and blankets in four shelters, keeping women and their children warm this winter. Thank you for your support of this project!
