Driving Towards Success! LA Corps Launches Driver's Education Program

Happy Holidays! Your generous support has helped the LA Conservation Corps launch a Driver's Education program. We are now providing driver's education and behind the wheel training to 10 young men and women who are overcoming barriers to employment. The LA Corps is increasing the number of licensed 18-24 year old adults in our program and improving their employment prospects.

Orlando (featured in the picture above) is a corpsmember whom greatly benefited from your support. Orlando is a very hard working, dedicated young man. After working at the LA Corps' East LA site, for a year and a half, he joined the LA Corps Transition program. While in the program he received employment services, forklift training, support services, college/career counseling and driver's education. Orlando reflects on his life journey in the last five years and states, "I feel like it took me so long to get here. Time has gone by so fast and I waited so long to get my license and go to college. I am so thankful because just in the last six weeks I have been able to get forklift training, my driver's license, a job, and will be starting college soon. I got so much support from [the LA Corps] Transition program. I am looking forward to going to college next year." Orlando took six hours of behind the wheel lessons with a local driving school and passed the driving exam during this second attempt. Orlando is now working as a Warehouse Attendant where he utilizes his driving skills. He will be enrolling in LA Trade Tech College in Spring 2014 where he hopes to join the Utility Pre-Craft Training program and obtain a career in public service.

Thank you for helping us increase the economic advancement of young adults like Orlando Tristancho! We hope you have a lovely Holiday Season!
